Approximately 66% of children report experiencing traumatic events before the age of 16. The effects of these experiences can be devastating, but with support, many children can overcome their traumatic experiences. This course, Trauma Informed Practices, raises awareness of the impact of childhood trauma on children’s learning and development and provides strategies to support the healing, resilience, and well-being of traumatized children and those who care for them. This is a 3 hour course that can be applied to CDA Subject Area 3.
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain how traumatic experiences impact the learning, development, and future well-being of young children.
- List types of events that can result in traumatic stress in children.
- Describe behaviors that may indicate a child has been traumatized.
- Create a trauma informed learning environment that supports children's health, healing, resilience, and social-emotional development.
- Describe compassion fatigue and use strategies that support self-care.
Approved for 0.3 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in all 50 states.
